About the Program
Forensic science is a fascinating field that continues to grow in demand, and you can get the best preparation possible for this career by choosing Iowa Western’s Forensic Investigation program. Iowa Western is the only two-year institution in Iowa and Nebraska offering this program, which awards graduates with an Associate of Science degree. The program focuses on these specific career areas:
- Criminal justice
- Law enforcement
- Related fields
Mock murder scenes prepare students for real-life forensic investigations. You’ll use fingerprinting kits for taking and looking at prints. Instructors add real-life knowledge to this program, which features theory-based classes.
This program is designed for students intending to transfer to a four-year institution upon completion of this two-year degree. Careers vary by region, but can include work as police officers, crime scene investigators, finger printing technicians, evidence technicians, and legal investigators. Graduates of this program can enter the work force upon graduation; however, many available positions will require a bachelor’s degree. Successful completion of this program, along with requisite work experience, will enable students to sit for the crime scene investigator certification examination offered by the Internal Association of Identification.
* Salaries reflect completion of a Bachelor's degree or higher.
