Summer Career Institute Advisor



This is a temporary position for the duration of the Summer Career Institute, July 17th thru July 22nd. If hired, advisors are also expected to complete approximately 9 hours of training prior to SCI. 



Preferred; bachelor’s degree

Required; currently progressing to an associate or bachelor’s degree



  • Experience that illustrates a history of successfully collaborating with co-workers on a regular basis to achieve common goals.
  • Experience with facilitating group activities.
  • Experience that demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disabled backgrounds of community college students.
  • Experience that illustrates a history of successfully collaborating with co-workers on a regular basis to achieve common goals. 


  • Experience working with a diverse population of students in pre-college programs, summer camps, residence life, and/or student activities.

Job Duties:

JOB SUMMARY:              

The Career Advisor will lead and supervise a cohort of students during the week-long program focused on career exploration and college planning. The advisor will facilitate career and college research sessions, supervise cohort during work-site tours, and attend all other institute sessions with the cohort. The advisor is expected to assist and engage their cohort in college and career planning.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:                           

  1. Facilitate College and career research and planning sessions
  2. Collaborate with other advisors and institute coordinator in curriculum development
  3. Maintain a positive attitude and a high level of energy among the cohort
  4. Attend all sessions throughout the week with cohort and celebration event
  5. Must be available week of June 5th for training
  6. Advise students on individual college and career plans
  7. Performs all other duties as assigned




Daytime hours July 17th thru July 22nd - approximately 40 hours in total.  Training will take place over three days from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  Dates and times of training are subject to change and may be arranged to accommodate personal schedule.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:                    

Requires frequent movement and prolonged standing or sitting.


Work will be performed in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, the classroom, lab, office, outside. Frequent contact with internal and external customers is required.
