About the Program

Put the law on your side by enrolling in Iowa Western's Paralegal Studies program, where you’ll explore the vast diversity of professional and legal subject matter. This program emphasizes practical as well as general legal theory. It’s a challenging program that rewards successful candidates with an Associate of Arts degree designed to get you working immediately after graduation, or transfer to a four-year institution.

One of the more attractive aspects of this program is that nearly all courses are taken online at your convenience. You’ll hone your computer skills while setting your priorities – something few other area paralegal programs can offer. The program concludes with a three-hour experiential internship. You’ll gain valuable experience conducting research in actual legal libraries.

Ethical concerns, legal research, and writing skills are keys to this program. You’ll be prepared for entry-level paralegal or legal assistant positions after two years. Who hires Iowa Western graduates? Law firms, banks, state agencies, and insurance companies, to name a few.

Career Information

The Paralegal Studies program is designed to place students into the workforce upon completion of this two-year degree. Paralegals are assigned many duties including the preparatory work for lawyers involved in closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings. Paralegals also investigate the facts of cases, conduct legal research, and prepare written reports that attorneys use in determining how cases should be handled. This program would also prepare you to transfer on to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree in a similar field of study.
