EMS-Instructor

This course is designed to train experienced pre-hospital providers to provide instruction to students enrolled in EMS education programs. Topics covered include: instructor roles and responsibilities, student learning styles, lesson plans, presentation skills, evaluation methods, motivation, teaching psychomotor skills, and legal and ethical issues associated with instruction. The course will be interactive and will include the opportunity to provide didactic and practical student education in a simulated classroom experience.

EMS Practical Exam Evaluator Workshop

This is the course needed for INITIAL evaluator endorsement.  This is NOT needed to maintain endorsement.  This course is offered every March and October. 2 CEHs

EMS Instructor Update

This is the course needed every two years for instructors to maintain their endorsement.  It is NOT an initial endorsement course. This course is offered every March and October.  2 CEHs

EMT-B Transition Modules

This class satisfies the Iowa Department of Public Health – Bureau of EMS’s Advanced Airway and IV Maintenance requirements (Modules 4 & 7) for endorsement as an Iowa EMT-Basic. The course covers the use of Dual Lumen Airway Devices (eg. Combitube) and how to maintain & discontinue non-medicated IV’s. Prospective students who are seeking endorsement, should print an application for endorsement from thebureau website at: http://www.idph.state.ia.us/ems/common/pdf/endo-app.pdf .

Complete the application, submit it with the $50.00 fee to the Bureau of EMS as listed at the top of the application. You should receive a preliminary approval from the bureau, asking for additional education in the aforementioned topics. Depending on the location of your initial EMT-Basic course and current state certifications, you may have to complete additional requirements to satisfy the Iowa Bureau of EMS.  4 CEHs

Last Chance For EMS Continuing Education

This course will give the EMS provider the opportunity to get those last few hours that they need to maintain their certification.  The topics will include: airway management, patient assessment, medical emergencies, trauma emergencies, infants and children, documentation, and mandatory abuse reporting.  This course is offered the last Saturday in March.  8 CEHs
