Medication Manager
This class is designed to prepare individuals to safely administer nonparenteral medication in a 15 bed or less MR residential facility, child care facility, supervised apartment living or community supported living arrangements. Emphasis is placed on safely administering medications from a prescription bottle and observing for obvious reactions to these medications. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- Discuss the federal and state laws related to drug administration
- Define and describe the role and responsibilities of the medication manager
- Identify the effects of drugs on persons and discuss the implications of these effects when administering medications
- Demonstrate safe procedures for preparing, administering and recording drugs given by medication managers
Class Requirments:
- Please be proficient at measuring blood pressure & apical pulse prior to beginning of class
- Please bring a 3-ring binder, paper and highlighter
- Students must obtain 80% on final to successfully complete class
- Skills checklist must be signed LEGIBLY or it will be returned to facility and certificate will be delayed
- A Registered Nurse must supervise the clinical part of class. Iowa Western requires a copy of the RN’s license to keep on file and the license number on all skills checklists
- Skills checklist must be returned to IWCC within 6 weeks of last day of class
