What do I do at Iowa Western?
When I started at IWCC, I worked in admissions. I still do help in admissions when it’s busy, so you might see me when you register for classes. However, as Director of Advising I generally work with current students in the General Studies program who need assistance progressing towards graduation and planning their transfer and career goals. I also get to work with faculty and help develop their advising skills. Additionally, I coordinate the college visits and transfer fairs on campus.
IWCC Stuff
Favorite IWCC Student Story:
One of my favorite memories over the last year was working with a student who had attended IWCC a few years back. Due to life’s circumstances she needed to quit. However, she recently returned to school and has only one class to take before graduating! She was so relieved that she was nearly ready to transfer. Her goals for herself in the next year suddenly exploded in my office. I really enjoyed seeing this student meet her goal of graduation and then set new goals for herself.
IWCC Insider Tip:
Don’t waste your time and gas money looking for a great parking spot on campus. IWCC has grown so much that during the first month of classes you should celebrate finding a place to park on campus or just get here early for great parking!
Favorite Link:
The Transfer Planning pages have to be my favorite because I got to help create them. It was so much fun to watch a website being built from the ground up. I think it is a great tool to use when researching where to transfer after graduating at IWCC.
Fun Stuff
What could you not live without?
I stared skyping about six months ago with a friend that moved out of the area. It is so fun to see someone rather than just talk on the phone! With friends and family all over the country Skype has made huge differences in how we communicate.
Community Service Involvement:
I am participating in the Relay for Life in Council Bluffs. This is the second year the Admissions Office has put together a team.
Hobbies and Interests:
- Food: I am always thinking about food, whether I am in the kitchen making something new or out eating in a local restaurant.
- Travel: I recently traveled to Las Vegas and am planning a trip to Arizona and Oregon in the near future.
- This year I became an aunt and I am so excited to spoil my little niece!
Favorite Sports Teams:
Iowa State Cyclones!
