Academic Coaching: Tutoring and Study Skills Assistance

Need direct assistance with course work? TRiO/Student Support Services offers free academic coaching in most General Education courses and some specialized courses. Academic coaching combines tutoring with study skills improvement strategies. Students may choose from one-on-one tutoring, drop-in tutoring, or facilitated study groups. Students may sign-up for academic assistance by checking the coaches’ availability on the Academic Coaches bulletin board displayed in the TRiO Offices.  Each coach will have their availability and course of expertise displayed.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental instruction (SI) is a series of twice-weekly review sessions for students taking a rigorous class who want to improve their understanding of course material and obtain a good grade. During the SI sessions, students compare notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies for studying the subject, and quiz each other before the actual tests. All sessions are facilitated by a trained SI Leader, who is prepared to assist students in developing strategies to fully understand the course material.
