TRiO Basics

The TRiO Offices are the haven for TRiO/SSS students. TRiO/SSS has created an atmosphere where students feel comfortable to study in a quite environment, have academic coaching sessions, research on the computers, and check out available technology. The TRiO is a great place to utilize as an TRiO/SSS student!

Learning Skills and Strategies Counseling

StudyEach participant of the TRiO/SSS program must complete a detailed needs assessment within 30 days of their acceptance to the program.  The needs assessment process is designed to provide both the participant and the TRiO/SSS advisor a specific outline of the individual’s needs and assets.

Students who are newly accepted into the TRiO/SSS program, are required to complete a study skills assessment. The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) provides students with a summary of their strengths and weaknesses in areas such as test-taking strategies, study techniques, and time managment. The assessment, along with goal-setting activities, is intended to be informative and assist in facilitating program planning and academic success for each individual student.

Computer Lab

Several computers and a laser printer are located in the Lab of the TRiO Offices (Fremont 133) for TRiO/SSS student use. TRiO staff and Academic Coaches are available to provide assistance in word processing skills or recommend computer-assisted instruction activities. The computers are also quipped with computer-tutorials for a variety of subjects, including Math, Writing, and Science courses.
