In the fall of 1964 the need was recognized for an institution of higher learning in Southwest Iowa. Area school legislation was approved on June 7, 1965. By 1966, Council Bluffs and Clarinda were both approved as locations for Iowa Western campuses. The purpose of Iowa Western then was to furnish more and better education opportunities for the citizens of Southwester Iowa. The mission continues now as a learning community committed to excellence in meeting educational needs and improving the quality of life through programs, partnerships and community involvement.
Iowa Western’s 50th Anniversary provides an exciting opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate the present and move forward with renewed dedication to our community and student achievement.
Join us in the celebration as the college remembers the past 50 years of excellence and looks forward to many more.
