Iowa Western Community College to Host 26th Annual Black Tie Harvest for Scholarships

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa –Iowa Western Community College is excited to announce the 26th annual Black Tie Harvest for Scholarships, the college’s largest annual fundraising event. Set for October 12, 2024, at 6:00 PM, the event will take place in Reiver Arena on the Iowa Western campus. This year’s theme, “Saddle Up for Scholarships,” promises a memorable evening filled with fun philanthropy, and community spirit, all in support of student assistance.

Chaired by Doug and Andi Coziahr, with Josh Kallsen and Melissa Head serving as co-chairs, the Harvest for Scholarships will feature both a silent and live auction, along with exciting cash and whiskey raffles. Guests will also enjoy a catered dinner as they gather to support Iowa Western students.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of this year’s Harvest for Scholarships and help make a difference in the lives of Iowa Western students,” said Doug and Andi Coziahr, event chairs. “The support from our community for this event is truly inspiring, and we look forward to coming together to ‘Saddle Up’ and raise critical funds that will help open doors of opportunity for so many deserving students.”

Since its inception, the Harvest for Scholarships has raised more than $3.1 million in funds that directly benefit student scholarships and emergency assistance, including Presidential, Nursing, and Career and Technical scholarships. The proceeds from the event are a critical part of the college’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality education to students, many of whom are first-generation college attendees and from low-income households. Iowa Western’s focus on providing financial aid ensures that deserving students can overcome barriers to achieve their educational goals and thrive in the community after graduation.

As a special highlight of the evening, Iowa Western will present its most prestigious honor, the 2024 Investment in Excellence Award, to John and Harriet Wiebe in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to the college. The Wiebes’ donation of over 100 acres of land in 2007, has resulted in more than $10 million for Iowa Western. This donation has established two lasting legacies: the John and Harriet Wiebe Football and Soccer Complex and the John and Harriet Wiebe Scholarship Endowment for Fine Arts and Education. The award will be accepted by their daughter, Roxanne Wiebe, and other family members, honoring the Wiebes’ lasting impact on the college and its students.
