Class A CDL Program

Our Class A CDL training provides the skills you need to drive semi-trailers safely and confidently in just four weeks.

Program Highlights:

  • Online Entry-Level Driver Theory (ELDT): Study the basics at your own pace.
  • Hands-On Driving Training: Practice turning, backing, and driving on rural and suburban roads.

Completion Time: Four weeks, with early testing available for proficient students.

Class B CDL Program

Earn your Class B CDL to operate vehicles like dump trucks and straight trucks in as little as 2–3 weeks.

Program Highlights:

  • CDL Testing: Iowa DOT-certified exam included.

CDL A/B Hybrid Course for Experienced Drivers

Designed for experienced drivers, this hybrid course combines online learning and hands-on training to help you earn your CDL quickly.

Who Should Enroll:

  • Drivers with prior commercial vehicle experience looking to advance their careers.
  • Professionals who want to formalize their skills and earn a CDL.

Program Requirements

To enroll in any CDL program, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old (18–21 may drive within state lines only).
  • Hold a valid Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) issued at least 14 days before the course start date.
  • Have a current DOT Physical (valid for 2 years).
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and have a valid medical card.
  • Register with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Upon completion, you can obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement. Refunds: You may cancel your registration 10 business days prior to the start of the class date and receive a 100% refund excluding the $50 non-refundable processing fee. If contacting outside Iowa Western Community College’s Business and Community Education Department hours, leave a voicemail and or send the department an email. Iowa Western Business and Community Education Department is not responsible for refunds if contact is not pursued via voicemail and or email. In compliance with the IWCC policy, refunds will only be produced in the form of a check.  A check will be issued within 14 business days after the refund is admitted to the customer. Cancellations: Iowa Western reserves the right to cancel any class where difficulties arise in staffing or scheduling and or where minimum enrollment is not achieved.  A full refund will be issued for all canceled classes.
