Built in 1923 as Clarinda Junior College, the campus became the Clarinda Center of Iowa Western Community College in 1966. It is located on eight acres in east Clarinda, adjacent to the city park and fairgrounds.
Instructional Services at the Clarinda Center include a comprehensive arts and sciences program, several vocational-technical programs, in addition to Continuing Education classes. Students can stay close to home while working toward an Associate’s Degree. IWCC students have the flexibility to schedule their classes, with day, evening, and weekend class options.
The Center consists of Optiz Hall, Rowland Hall, Royal Hall, Edith Lisle Library, and the Student Center, Depot, Activities Building, and the Center of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing (CEAM).

With just one stop at the Clarinda Center, you can access assistance with our college application, speak with an advisor, learn about your financial aid options, and register. We truly are a one-stop-shop, and invite you to stop by during business hours or call to make an appointment to get started.
Paying for College/Costs
New and current students need to renew their Financial Aid every year. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov, click “Fill Out A Renewal FAFSA” and follow the directions. Continuing Education
Continuing Education at the Clarinda Center offers community members the opportunity to gain knowledge in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
HiSET (High School Equivalency)
The Clarinda Center offers HiSET instruction and testing to qualified individuals. An experienced instructor assesses each student to determine strengths and a starting level, which results in an individualized instruction plan focused on the student’s needs. Iowa Western Community College offers HiSET testing in several Southwest Iowa locations.
HiSET class schedule:
Monday, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday & Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Note: Students must have instructor approval to test
Center of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing
The CEAM program in Clarinda is a non-credit certificate program currently focused on Electro-Mechanical training. Classroom and lab instruction are centered around learning theory then transition to practical application. Students can take the whole program or attend for a few courses! Student may earn college credit upon completion of the program.
Facility Rental
The Clarinda Center has space available for you to rent. This includes business meetings, special events and classrooms that include the state-of- the-art audiovisual equipment. Facility rentals are available M-F 8:00-4:30 and in the evening and on the weekend as availability allows. The Depot is also available for special occasions.
