How do I apply for on-campus housing?
All housing contracts are submitted online. Students may complete this application online at http://www.iwcc.edu/residence_life/. If you have questions about the application or cannot log-in, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
*Please remember that the application is a legally binding document. By submitting the application online you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of the contract including all financial responsibility. The housing contract is for the full academic term.; remember to thoroughly read the provided contract before agreeing to the ‘terms and conditions’. The contract must be opened as a PDF file at the end of the housing application process.
HINT: Make every effort to submit your housing application as early as possible, as we fill up quickly.
How do I indicate my housing facility choice?
Within the online application, you will be able to rank your housing preferences. One (1) being your first choice and so forth.
Hint: If you only put down one housing facility, you will only be considered for that facility. We suggest that you rank all of the housing choices according to your preference. This will give you a better chance of receiving on campus housing.
*Please understand that housing contracts are processed on a first-come first-serve basis with both application and deposit submission date. We try our best to accommodate preferences however we cannot guarantee your housing preferences due to limited space.
After I submit my contract online, what's my next step?
Once your housing application has been submitted, you will receive an email confirming your application and contract have been completed.
Please note that this does not mean you have been guaranteed a room on-campus. Residence life department must receive your deposit before contract will be processed.
If you have submitted both your housing application and security deposit, please wait for a confirmation from the Residence Life Department this summer for updates regarding your housing status via email provided on the application.
Once you have completed the housing application and the security deposit; you will receive notification in June that you have been assigned a room on-campus. Be sure to check your emails over the course of the summer regarding important information about roommate assignments, move-in, and welcome week events!
Is there a security deposit?
Yes, a $200.00 security deposit must be submitted with your housing contract. Please note that no rooms will be held without completion of a housing application AND a security deposit.
Your security deposit can be paid online through CashNet (link provided on the housing application), through the Cashier's window in the Welcome Center, or by mailing a check to the Cashier's office. Please note that in order to pay online, you must pay during the initial application process; students are not able to log back in and pay using CashNet.
When is my security deposit refunded?
Security deposits are refunded after the contracted term has expired and any room damages, fines, or charges to your IWCC account have been subtracted.
Security deposits are NOT refunded if the term of the contract is not fulfilled. If you have renewed your contract for the following school year, your deposit will roll over.
Please note that the housing contract is for the full academic year, not per semester.
What if I move out before my lease term ends?
What if I decide not to move in and cancel my contract?
All cancellations need to be completed through eRez Life. To receive your security deposit refund before moving in, you must complete your cancellation by July 1st for the Fall term, December 1st for the Spring term, and May 1st for the Summer term. If you cancel after these deadlines, your security deposit will be forfeited.
Your housing application can be canceled by emailing email@example.com or by logging back onto your application and selecting the cancelation option.
I have received a notice that I am on a waiting list for housing. What does this mean?
This means that all of the housing facilities are full and we cannot offer a space to you at this time. Once a cancellation occurs and a space becomes available for you, we will notify you immediately.
Again, make every effort to submit your housing application as early as possible, as we fill up quickly.
Is a meal plan required to live in the Reiver Tower and Reiver Suites?
What housing options are available?
We offer a variety of housing styles at IWCC.
Our Suites style living is the most popular housing. Each suite is designed to accommodate four students and includes a living room, four individual bedrooms, and two bathrooms.
The Reiver Village is an apartment is designed to accommodate two to four students and includes a living room, dining area, two bedrooms, bathroom, and kitchen.
Iowa Western's Reiver Tower residence hall is a high rise, five story building that houses male students in a traditional dorm room. There are single and double rooms available.
When will I know my room and roommate assignment?
Residence Life will begin the assignment process for Fall 2018 housing in June. We attempt to have room assignments and roommate contact information emailed to students by the begining of July. Remember that roommate selection must be mutual or we will not be able to grant your request. We ask that students do not attempt to call our offices about the roommate assignments, as they will be emailed as soon as they are completed. Emails will be sent to the email address provided on the application.
Can I request a roommate?
Yes, you can request a roommate. Roommate requests are made when you complete your housing application on eRez Life. Once the application deadline has passed students are unable to select roommates. All roommate requests must be mutual or we will not be able to grant your request.
*Please keep in mind that while we try to honor your roommate requests, we cannot guarantee all requests.
* Athlete roommates are assigned by your coach.
After you have accepted the terms of the contract, you will be given the option to submit your housing application without requesting roommates OR continue to make a roommate selection.
If you wish to request roommates, you will need to have that student’s email address or student ID number. In the roommate selection section, you will need to make sure to either create a group for you and your requested roommates or add yourself to a group that has already been made.
Please designate one person to create your group; they will need to submit their application before the others within the group.
If you are the individual creating the group, select the ‘create a group’ option. You will be prompted for further information. After naming the group, you can add a maximum of three others to your group, for a maximum of four students within each group. Once you have finished creating the group and adding your requested roommates successfully, please submit your application.
If you did not create the group but know you have been requested as a roommate, continue to the roommate selection page towards the end of your application. You will see under ‘My Choice’ the option to select your recognized ‘Group Name’ or ‘No Preference’. You will be able to see the other requested ‘Applicants’ listed in the created group. To add yourself to this group, simply select the group you wish to be added to. You will then submit your application.
If you do not add yourself to the correct group or select ‘No Preference’, your application will not be processed with the other requested roommates.

What amenities are included in my housing?
As part of the housing fees the following utilities are included gas, heat, water, electricity, Internet, cable T.V., free laundry, and local telephone (including voice mail). You will need to provide a telephone. Just another perk to living out campus, no hassles with the bills!
Reiver Tower rooms are 10’ x 17 ½’
Reiver Suites bedrooms are 10’4 x 11’9 and the common area is 9’ x 21’
Reiver Village bedrooms are 11’ x 9’ and the living room is 11’9 x 12’
Other amenities provided:
- Air conditioning in all housing facilities
- Desk and Chair (in Tower and Suites Only)

- Wardrobe (Tower and Village)
- All beds are extra-long twin size
- Stove and full size refrigerator (Village Only)

What if my roommate and I do not get along?
It is normal in any relationship or friendship to have a disagreement or argument. Often times sitting down with your Resident Assistant can help residents learn to voice irritations and frustrations they might have. Your Resident Assistant can also assist in creating a roommate agreement, so the living situation may improve. We recommend that students work on their roommate situations and practice good communication with one another so that they learn how to work out their differences.
What is the smoking policy in housing?
IWCC campus is smoke-free. The consumption or use of any type of tobacco based products inside or outside IWCC facilities is strictly prohibited. The State of Iowa has passed a “Smoke-Free Air” bill that prohibits smoking in any enclosed facilities, parking lots, and cars on IWCC property. This includes Residence Life facilities. If you or your guest are found smoking in your room or outside of a Residence Life facility, you will be assessed an administrative fee and may be subject to disciplinary action.
Are pets allowed in campus housing?
Yes, residents may have fish for pets provided the tank does not exceed ten (10) gallons in size. All other pets are prohibited and may not visit or stay in the room or apartment for any period of time. Residents found responsible for violating the pet policy are subject to immediate billing for cleaning charges as well as judicial sanctioning.

What will my mailing address be?
Do I need a parking permit to park at IWCC?
Yes, first you will need to register your car at https://roc.iwcc.edu/campuslife/parkingtransportation/Pages/default.aspx. Please bring the print out to move in to receive your parking permit sticker.
All motor vehicles operated by persons living on campus must be properly registered with the College. Contact the Residence Life Department for information regarding vehicle registration and to obtain a parking permit. Parking or driving on grass or sidewalks is prohibited. Residence Life students will receive parking permit stickers on move-in day. Housing students can ONLY park in their facility parking lot.
Vehicles without a valid permit are subject to towing at the owners expense. IWCC is not responsible for any loss, theft or damage to any vehicle entering, exiting, or parked in the parking lot.
Note: Parking stickers are FREE for any IWCC student.
How do I access campus housing?
Residence Life uses a finger enrollment system for student entry into the housing facilities. Students are required to enroll their finger during move-in. When entering a facility, a resident shall place their finger on the scanner and wait for the front desk to give access.
Students that do not reside in the facility will need to check in with a resident. Guests are allowed to check in 24/7 however they must be with a resident of that facility. In order to check in, students must provide a photo id to the front desk.
What is a Resident Assistant?
A Resident Assistant, better known as an RA, is a student member of the Iowa Western Community College staff who resides in the building with the residents. RA’s have many roles – they are responsible for educational and social programming, for acting as a resource person, for enforcing rules and regulations, as well as being friends. RA’s are there to assist you during move-in and throughout the year.

What do I need to bring?
The following are some items that we suggest you bring along:
- Bedding: Extra-long twin sheets, mattress pad, blanket, pillows and pillow cases
- Toiletries: Bath towels, washcloths, toothbrush holder, soap dish, shower caddy, bathrobe, shower shoes, and bathroom tissue (Suites and Village only).
- Laundry: Laundry basket, detergent, fabric softer. On-site laundry machines are free to use.
- Entertainment: T.V. with cable cord, DVD player, alarm clock, and extension cords.
- Food: Mini refrigerator (Suites and Tower only) 4.3 cubic feet and smaller, microwave (1.3 cubic feet or smaller), coffee pot, silverware, kitchenware (Village only) plates, utensils, cups, bowls, napkins, paper towels, dish towels, and dish soap.
- Communication: Telephone with cord.
- Computer: Although it is not a necessity, the majority of our students choose to bring a personal computer with them to college. Computer labs are located around campus as well as the Reiver Suites and Reiver Tower. Residents bringing their own computer will need to bring along an Ethernet cable.
- School items: Backpack, desk lamp, stamps, dictionary, calculator, printer paper
- Cleaning Supplies: Broom, vacuum, bathroom cleaning supplies (Reiver Suites and Village only).
What should I NOT bring?
Items to leave at home:
- Halogen lights
- Weapons, including firearms of any kind (including air soft and paintball guns)
- Fireworks, candles, incense
- Large nails
- Waterbeds or lofts
- Alcoholic beverages, empty alcohol containers, posters or room décor with alcohol or drug advertisements
- Any open coil appliances (toasters, hot plates, etc.)
I received my housing confirmation letter, why didn't I get my first choice?
Unfortunately, not everyone will receive their first preference in room assignment due to facility capacity. Assignments are made on a first-come first-serve basis with application and deposit submission, so students who complete the application process early have the best chance of receiving their top room choice. We suggest that applicants rank all of the housing choices, as we will not assign someone to a room they did not apply for. If you are placed on a waitlist for a room assignment, Residence Life will contact you as soon as a spot is available.
If you do not receive your preferred assignment over the summer, Residence Life does have a transition process in place to accommodate moves mid-semester. This process begins a couple weeks after Move-In and is based on room availability. You should contact your RL Coordinator for more information upon your arrival.
Is there currently a waiting list for housing?

Can I move in mid term?
Yes, depending on availability. If space is available, you would be able to move-in mid-term. Contact us at email@example.com or 712-388-7695 for occupancy information.
Does IWCC offer family or married housing?
No, IWCC Residence Life does not offer family or married housing; Residence Life Rules and Regulations do not permit cohabitation. Children under the age of 16 are not permitted to visit the Residence Life Facilities unless accompanied by a parent and are not permitted to spend the night under any circumstance. Guests 16 or 17 years of age must checked out by 8pm.
If I am a felon, can I live on campus?
No. Individuals who pose a clear and present danger to other residents are not eligible to live in on-campus housing. If you do have a felony record and wish to appeal your eligibility, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
